SAA appoints Nigerian as Country Manager in Angola PDF Print E-mail
Ohis Ehimiaghe and Aaron Munetsi, Head, North, Central and West Africa, SAAThe management of South Africa Airways has been commended by stakeholders in the aviation industry for appointing a Nigerian, Mr. Ohis Ehimiaghe the new country manager of the airline in Angola.
At a send-forth dinner organised in Ehimiaghe’s honour in Lagos recently, stakeholders praised the move as a remarkable sign that artificial boundaries impeding progression of talented and hardworking Africans are beginning to give way as they reasoned that in no distant future, Africa would emerge as an economic power if the trend continues.
Chairman of Nigeria Tourism Expo (NITEX), Chief Edem Duke praised the move saying that quality, service as international benchmarks for recognising and rewarding excellence was applied just as he advised the appointee to rededicate himself to providing virtues that saw his rise in the airline.
“It is not unusual in circumstances such as emerged for representative of an airline operator to have to go back home to look for somebody to send to Angola. It is commendable as they are able to say that regardless of the fact that Nigeria does not have its own national carrier but they found a Nigerian worthy of this appointment.” An elated Duke said.
According to him, the appointment of Ehimiaghe is a reflection of the fact that the country has an abundant pool of professionals in the aviation industry that foreign airline
could tap from. He argued that if given the right incentives, Nigerian professionals can compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world.
On the potential gains of the move, he said, “It is critical for us to stretch the hands of fellowship amongst professionals in the African continent. Africans must begin to cross
artificial boundaries to express themselves professionally. A light is shinning from the confines of South African Airways and it is something that must be borrowed by other
operators in this country.”
On his part, Head, North, Central and West Africa, Mr. Aaron Munetsi praised the appointee whom he described as an asset to the airline for always meeting set criteria for
measuring performance as well as his ability to raise future leaders. “He had critical areas mapped out for him and he knew exactly what was expected of him. He knew that he was going to be measured. He knew what the measurements were and the implications for either meeting them or not. I met say he has always surpassed our expectations of him.” Munetsi told the guests.
